Imagine if you lived with a lifelong condition where you needed to go to the washroom between five and 20 times a day INCREASING WASHROOM ACCESS CHANGES LIVES A primary lifestyle concern for the 300,000 Canadians living with Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis is accessing washrooms when they are away from home. Living with Crohns or colitis is a daily challenge. Faced with the anxiety of an accident due to incontinence, many choose to stay at home. Those that do not must plan their activities around publicly accessible washroom locations. The GoHere Washroom Access Program makes it possible for individuals to escape the social isolation these diseases can cause. This program makes it easier for people living with Crohn's or colitis or both to manage their symptoms and lead more active, productive and fulfilling lives. There are many more individuals who benefit from increased washroom accessibility. These include individuals with various conditions that cause incontinence issues, such as certain neurological disorders and forms of cancer. Seniors, pregnant women and young children are groups who also benefit from the GoHere program. The GoHere Washroom Access Program employs innovative practices by utilizing a 3-pronged strategy: business outreach and storefront signage; a digital and dynamic app designed to find accessible washrooms before leaving your home; and an access card, to raise awareness when Canadians face questioning regarding their inflammatory bowel disease and its accommodation needs. The program helps create communities that are understanding, supportive and accessible for Canadians with disabilities that cause incontinence. We want everyone to have the opportunity to engage and thrive in their community. You can plan for washroom access en route to your destination or in advance by using the GoHere app. The app is free and available on an iPhone, Android and Blackberry Touchscreen. Takeda Canada has been a major partner of the Crohns and Colitis Canada GoHere program since it was first launched in 2015. GoHere Washroom Access Card: Opening washroom doors A special feature of the GoHere app is the personalized virtual GoHere Washroom Access Card to show proof of medical need.
