About this service
The Victim Witness Assistance Program is available to help you if you are involved in a criminal case either because you are a victim of crime or because you have been called as a witness to testify in a case. The mandate of VWAP is to provide information, assistance and support to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice process in order to improve their understanding of, and participation in, the criminal justice process. There is no fee for this service. Our key services are:
- Courtroom orientation and information about the criminal justice system
- Case specific information (court dates, probation orders)
- Court accompaniment (when possible)
- Assistance with Victim Impact Statements
- Information on Criminal Injuries Compensation
- Referrals to community agencies
- Assistance with Crown Interviews
- Community Education
- Community Coordination of services for victims of crime
