The Community Support Worker program provides culturally appropriate holistic prevention and intervention support to urban Indigenous individuals and families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The goal of the program is to provide tools to support individuals with independence in all aspects of life including (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) while also providing secondary wholistic supports to caregivers. Program Objectives Increase awareness of the risks associated with alcohol/drug consumption during pregnancy and while breastfeeding; as well as FASD prevention, impacts and healthy sexuality in youth. Support individuals in their daily lives by improving access to education, employment and justice support services. Increase awareness to people affected by FASD regarding the importance of proper nutrition, and the impact of malnutrition on infant development. Services available One-on-one support Cultural awareness Life skills guidance Addiction prevention and support for substance abuse In home and outreach support for children and youth whose parents have FASD Support for caregivers of children, youth and adults with FASD (or suspected FASD) Referrals for diagnosis Child nutrition supports and resources
