About this service
Personal Effectiveness Training Program Personal Effectiveness Training program participants The Personal Effectiveness Training program Niagara Region is a therapeutic day activity program designed to enhance the quality of life of adults with disabilities and/or acquired brain injuries. The program provides structured activities that promote the development of social, cognitive, physical and emotional skills that will lead to increased independence and community integration. The program is delivered in partnership by March of Dimes Canada and Brain Injury Community Re-Entry. This program has been shifted to be virtual (held online and by telephone) so you dont have to miss it during the pandemic! We understand the social connection provided by our programs has never been more important. If you were previously attending this program in person and would like to participate in new virtual programming but you havent heard from us, please get in touch! Contact information is at the bottom of this page. Components and Objectives Skill Training: To teach a variety of specific functional skills and to provide structured opportunities for learning within individual and group activities, i.e. Life Skills; computer training; literacy, numeracy and cognitive training. Physical Exercise: To provide group exercise and recreational programs, and to teach and promote an active healthy lifestyle. Leisure Development: To teach leisure and recreational activities and to provide opportunities for practise of social and interpersonal skills. Community Skill Development: To provide opportunities for community outings and real-life practice of skills within a community setting. Supported Volunteer Placements: To evaluate and match participants with appropriate volunteer placements, teaching placement expectations and skills, and to provide necessary supervision and support. If applicable, to develop the skills to progress to a supported employment program. Each applicant must: Be adults 18 years of age and older Have a primary diagnosis of a physical, developmental, or acquired brain injury disability Have been assessed as non-competitively employable Have goals related to the program components above Be able to actively and appropriately participate in a group setting Candidates with significant behavioural challenges will be required to have a behaviour support plan and will be assessed on an individual basis Candidates with significant personal care needs will be required to obtain attendant care services through March of Dimes Canada or private service providers The Personal Effectiveness Training program serves persons from Regional Niagara referred through community agencies, self, or identified by March of Dimes Canada or Brain Injury Community Re-Entry (Niagara) Inc. programs. Referrals from insurance, rehabilitation companies and WSIB are also accepted on a fee for service basis.
