About this service

The Sexual Assault Program provides care to individuals who have experienced sexual violence. We work together with other community services to offer medical care, emotional support and assistance through the legal process.

The Sexual Assault Response Team is a group of specially trained nurses. The team is available twenty-four hours a day through the Emergency Department at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). The team can provide:

  • Emergency and follow-up medical care for injuries and testing for sexually transmitted infections
  • Crisis emotional support
  • Longer term follow-up counselling
  • Arrangements to talk to the police, if the patient wishes
