About this service
Despite its prominence as the economic centre of Canada, Toronto has struggled with chronic homelessness. Its estimated that over 5,000 people are homeless on any given day. Since 2001, Muslim Welfare Centre has provided Torontos homeless with food through our Meals on Wheels program. Every Saturday, volunteers gather to prepare over 500 lunch bags consisting of a sandwich or burger, seasonal fruit and a juice box. Once prepared, these lunches are hand-delivered to the homeless in various shelter locations in downtown Toronto. This program runs every Saturday (rain or shine, winter or summer) 52 weeks a year. We are proud to say that we have not missed a single Saturday since we started thanks to our dedicated volunteers and supportive donors.
