About this service
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often have difficulty in learning functional skills. Developing these skills is important to enhance the ability of an individual to achieve greater independence. Teaching functional skills also helps mitigate some maladaptive behaviors (e.g., aggression, self-injury) by motivating the patient to choose a suitable replacement skill.
Teaching functional life skills early on is an important part of raising a child with disabilities. Turning Point can assist in helping to teach your child functional living skills by:
Breaking up your childs daily routines into small achievable steps
Teaching and instructing self-help skills including: feeding, dressing, grooming, potty training, and engaging in appropriate leisure activities.
Provide assistance to children, parents, and caregivers to help generalize daily self-care activities across home, school and in the community.
