About this service
The Investing in Women's Futures program helps immigrant and visible minority women move towards economic self-sufficiency through marketable skills training, employment readiness and life skills coaching as well as providing customer service training and self-employment coaching. To learn more about the Investing in Women's Futures Program. October - December, 2022 This term of Investing in Women's Futures offers Pre-employment preparation & Life skills, Basic Computers - Level 2, and Advanced Sewing alongside guest speakers, networking opportunities, and one-to-one support. Pre-employment preparation & Life skills Start Date: October 12 End Date: December 22 Wednesdays and Thursdays - 12:00pm - 2:00pm (Online and In-Person) Resume writing Cover letter writing Interview preparation Self-awareness & esteem building Visioning & Goal setting Effective Communication Positive Confrontation & Assertiveness Effective Time Management Decision making skills Problem solving & critical thinking Basic Computers - Level 2 Start Date: October 6 End Date: December 23 Thursday and Friday 10:00am - 11:30am (Online and In-Person) Computer Basic and Troubleshooting MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint Google Workspace: Gmail, Drive, Sheets and Slides Internet Basics and Cyber Security Online Job Search Use of Internet for daily needs Advanced Sewing Start Date: October 10 End Date: December 23 Review of measurements and further measuring Clothing repairs and advanced alterations Replacing zippers Zipper installation and clothing project Detailed body measurements and measurement application Adjusting pattern sizes to fit Proper cutting of fabric Garment construction following pattern instructions Introduction to the thread chain stitch machine and learning to thread 5 thread machine Additional Program Features Guest speaker sessions Opportunities to network, connect, and learn from real people with real stories during lunch and learn sessions One-on-one support
