COMMUNITY GROUPS

The purpose of the Community Groups is to support members to participate in community while encouraging them to make connections to places and people. As groups begin connecting to places and people in community, the hope is that these groups will eventually meet together without paid support. This is accomplished through: Group facilitation to develop group norms and safety in community Developing relationships in community Becoming more confident and independent Leadership development Are there any requirements? Person must be 18 years old and up and eligible for Passport Funding. Member does not need assistance with personal care and one-to-one support. When do groups meet? Groups meet on various days and times during the week. Typically, they meet on one day during the week for 3-4 hours. Groups receive 160 support hours per year from a Community Facilitator. How many members are in each group? 4 people with similar schedules and interests are matched with one Community Facilitator. What is the cost of joining a group? The Annual Membership Fee is $2,000 per year, billed quarterly ($500/term). How can you cover the cost of the group? Most people choose to use their Passport funding to cover the cost of the group. However, people may pay out of pocket for these fees while theyre waiting for Passport funding. What is the commitment? With the hope of eventually meeting without paid support, a long-term commitment is preferred to establish comfort in the group and mutual support.
