About this service
You won't often see 13-year-olds hanging out with police officers and firefighters - unless you live in our community. For nearly two decades, the Chicopee Outreach Program Summer (COPS) has been bridging the gap between local youth and our area police and fire departments through activities, education and interaction opportunities.
The program was first introduced in response to neighbourhood concerns of increased youth involvement in criminal activity and substance abuse.
Annual Summer activities include three full days of activities, as well as a three-day, two-night stay at Silver Lake Camp, where participants build lasting memories, friendships and self-esteem.
COPS continues to be a partnership between the city, Kitchener fire department, Waterloo Region Police Service, Centreville-Chicopee Community Association, Kingsdale Community Association and Mill-Courtland Community Association.
