AIM Academy

AIM Academy supplements what Canadian secondary students learn in the traditional classroom setting with a specific focus on social justice education. Regardless of changes made to provincial education curricula, AIM Academy will always provide a critical understanding of both historic and contemporary issues in Canadian society. AIM Academy focuses on Indigenous reconciliation, environment and climate change education, and building personal financial literacy with emphasis on fostering a mutual aid approach amongst secondary students. AIM Academy is built for a variety of learners who are interested in financial independence. Whether youre a high School students who want to learn more about financial literacy, a university student who struggles with financial management, or a middle school student whos simply curious. Financial literacy. The AIM Academy Financial Literacy course introduces students to key elements of budgeting, saving, and investing. This component is designed to complement many secondary school curricula. In the second half of the course, we introduce students to the concepts of mutual aid, financial and economic justice, as well as a primer on Modern Monetary Theory. Climate change. We believe that every Canadian secondary student should be presented with a factual, scientific, and evidence-based approach to climate change. This includes the role of humans in exacerbating its effects. This course addresses the science, as well as the social and economic impacts of climate change, as well as what students can do on an individual level to support change. Indigenous reconciliation. We begin by acknowledging that most people are settlers in what we now refer to as Canada. The Indigenous Reconciliation course supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action. The course focuses on the historic and contemporary atrocities perpetuated against Indigenous Peoples, as well as how students can further reconciliation.
