About this service
The Lewis & Ruth Sherman Hospice Care Program was established to provide specialized care to individuals and families facing end-of-life challenges at Shalom Village. Hospice care means that the resident, family and team have decided to change the goals of care when faced with a life-threatening illness. Shalom Village celebrates life and living, but also recognizes that the end of life may be approaching. Our focus during this time is comfort and not sustaining life or saving measures.
Hospice services funded by this program include:
- Spiritual guidance
- Palliative care training for staff and volunteers
- Complementary therapies
- 1:1 support at end of life for residents and families
We help residents celebrate their lives and the legacies they want to leave behind. When a person receives hospice care, we acknowledge that residents who are dying are still living.
