Life - Learning Independence for Future Empowerment

LIFE - Learning Independence for Future Empowerment LIFE Mississauga participants at lunch LIFE - Learning Independence for Future Empowerment serves young adults with disabilities as they make the transition to greater independence by providing new skills and hands-on opportunities for growth and development. The LIFE program is delivered over 10 weeks, through virtual and in-person sessions from Monday to Friday for one to two hours each day. The program offers youth living with disabilities a means to learn the necessary skills for independent living, in an inclusive environment that is supportive of their goals. A trained program instructor leads the program, adapting the lessons and activities to the group's needs. Topics covered include: Goal setting Coping skills Self-advocating Budgeting and banking Independent living Self-advocating Budgeting and banking Independent living Healthy relationships Health and wellness Technology and assistive devices Transit training Preparation for volunteering and employment Participants apply acquired skills during social programs and recreational outings like bowling, visiting parks, going to lunch and a movie, playing sports, shopping, banking, and more.
