About this service
If you are a newcomer to Canada and need to learn or improve your English language skills, YMCA NEO Immigrant Services offers language assessment services at no cost to eligible clients. Eligibility 18+ years of age Ontario Residents, with one of the following immigration statuses: Canadian Citizens born outside of Canada whose native language is not English Permanent Residents Convention Refugees/Protected Persons Persons in Canada whose applications for Permanent Resident status are being processed in Canada and who have been informed by a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada of the initial approval of their application subject to an admissibility assessment Refugee claimants Temporary workers or students who have obtained initial approval for a concurrent Application for Permanent Residence Foreign domestic workers admitted under the Live-In Caregiver program To book an appointment Email: newcomer-info@ymcaneo.ca Call: (705) 674-2324 On the day of your Language Assessment 1. Bring your immigration documents Original landing document Citizenship Card Permanent Resident Card 2. Plan for two to three hours for the assessment Assessor will ask you to write, read and speak in English You will be provided with your benchmark numbers by the assessor You can be referred to a government-funded English language program
