SHAPE THE LIVES OF YOUNG MEN Game On! is a free group mentoring program that provides boys between 10 and 16 years old with the opportunity to participate in fun and interactive discussions and activities led by staff. This program promotes physical activity, positive nutrition, and building relationship skills. OUR PROGRAM STRIVES TO DO THE FOLLOWING: Openly discuss current and pressing issues facing boys and young men through different lenses Build an appreciation for the benefits of healthy eating habits Promote physical exercise through the use of non-traditional activities Instill respect for socio-economic, ethno-cultural and racial diversity Encourage leadership skills and independent thinking Above all, make a difference while having fun PROGRAM DETAILS The Game On! program consists of 7 mentoring sessions, held over a 7-week period through the ZOOM platform. Each 1-1.5 hour-long session is loosely structured around four themes: physical activity healthy eating self-esteem communication skills THE MAIN GOAL OF THE GAME ON! PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP AN APPRECIATION OF THE BENEFITS OF AN ACTIVE, HEALTHY, LIFESTYLE AMONG GIRLS. IN ADDITION, THE PROGRAM STRIVES TO ACHIEVE THE FOLLOWING KEY OBJECTIVES: To support boys and young men in choosing to maintain a healthy active lifestyle. To provide boys and young men with the tools and information they need to choose to lead and maintain a healthy lifestyle. To enhance competence, confidence, and self-esteem of boys and young men regarding healthy active living. To build the leadership and life skills of all program participants. HOW CAN IT BE DONE ONLINE? Fortunately, we live in a time where almost anything is possible using modern technology! Within this group, there will be weekly scheduled ZOOM video calls that the staff/mentors will facilitate, and the boys can participate in by chatting, using the devices microphone or video if they feel comfortable. The provide the best environment for everyone to video chat/text chat with equally, our group sizes will only include 6-8 participants per online group. WHAT WILL THEY BE DOING ONLINE? The groups will be focusing on reducing stress and anxiety around COVID-19, anti-violence, healthy minds, problem solving, healthy relationships, discussing online safety & social media usage + moreall from the safety of their homes! All conversations will be monitored and kept on the topic by a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sudbury staff member.
