About the Coalition The Greater Sudbury Coalition to End Violence Against Women is comprised of people concerned about violence against women and their families in the Greater Sudbury region. Our member agencies support women regardless of race, societal class, religion, economic group, age and lifestyle. We oppose violence as a means of control over others, support equality in relationships and aim to help women regain power over their lives. While incidents of violence against men do occur, violence against women is more pervasive, more systemic and usually more severe. Gender violence does not exclude same sex violence. The Coalition to End Violence Against Women believes violence against women and their children results from force or threat to achieve and maintain control in intimate relationships as well as form societal abuse of power and domination via sexism, racism, homophobia, classism, ageism and other oppressions. Vision Our community where women are free from all forms of violence. Mission The Greater Sudbury Coalition to End Violence Against Women actively works towards eliminating the social, political, systemic and economic conditions that perpetuate violence against women. Goals Our goals are to provide a leadership role to end violence against women in our community by identifying needs, minimize gaps and enhance the development of services for women who are at risk of or are victims and/or survivors of sexual violence and woman abuse/assault. We strive to provide public awareness, education, prevention and events in the community from a culturally safe perspective. We actively initiate and support research concerning political, social, systemic and economic issues relating to sexual violence and woman abuse/assault.
