Food Safety
Food safety affects everyone from cooking in the home to eating at restaurants and other places. The Northwestern Health Unit works to prevent food-borne illness (getting sick from food) by:
- Educating the public on food safety at home and during an emergency.
- Providing advice to food premises operators.
- Inspecting food premises.
- Investigating food safety complaints.
- Providing safe food handler training.
- Alerting the public to food safety alerts and recalls.
- Providing proper hand washing information.
- Reviewing and approving special occasion food permits when providing from food vendors at one-time events.
