About this service
Burlington Humane has limited space to accept pet surrenders. We do not accept pet surrenders at the door. There may be a fee associated with surrendering your cat or dog. This fee will be calculated on a case-by-case basis.
We understand that giving up your pet is an emotional decision, but one that is potentially the best option for you and your pet. Once you surrender your pet to Burlington Humane, you forfeit all right of ownership to them. Please be aware that your rationale for surrendering your pet will be taken into consideration if you apply to re-adopt them. It may not be possible for Burlington Humane Society to return the pet to its former owner who has previously admitted that they are unable or unwilling to provide care for them.
