About this service
If your baby is premature or needs special care, he or she will be transferred to the NICU. Your baby will be taken care of by a paediatrician or neonatologist, respiratory therapist, and a registered nurse.
Mothers are also able to access the services of a social worker and lactation consultant. Daily rounds to discuss your babys care are led by a physician. It is normal for some babies to have an intravenous (IV) in their hand or foot, a feeding tube, medications such as antibiotics, a machine to help with breathing, or to be in an isolette (warming bed).
