About this service
Pregnancy and birth are unique for each woman. The well-being of the mother and infant are dependent upon each other as both adjust to the many physical, psychological and social changes after birth. Combined Care means one nurse cares for both you and your baby together. Your baby will leave the birthing unit with you and go directly to your room where, together with the help of your nurse and family you care for your baby until discharge home. This will help you quickly establish a bond with your baby and gain confidence in parenting skills. Sleep/wake patterns are learned and adapted to by parents when the baby is kept at the mother's bedside. Health teaching about baby care is done as the need arises. You will be given a discharge planner when you are admitted, please use this resource to identify any learning needs you may have. Your nurse will review this package with you prior to discharge.
