About this service
Sometimes in life, people are faced with a situation without an obvious solution floods, tornadoes, fires, civil unrest, earthquakes, terrorist attacks or war, school closings, acts of violence or death, and other tragic circumstances beyond our control. When this happens, we become highly sensitive and can experience many emotions that we may not realize we are capable of feeling. Silver Linings is a community support program for counselors, volunteers, churches, and relief organizations needing additional tools to assist youth experiencing emotional turmoil due to loss/change. Children ages 5-8 and 9-13, as well as teens, are able to share their feelings and thoughts about these changes with others their own age. Silver Linings has been proven successful in classrooms, community centers, and short term rescue shelters after 9/11, during the aftermath of weather related disasters, in areas of civil unrest, and when counselors are called to assist youth when violence and other tragedies occur.
