About this organization

The John Howard Society is an organization dedicated to reforming the correctional system and assisting offenders in making positive changes in their lives. Although there are multiple organizations with the same name worldwide, they are not formally connected but share a common purpose and philosophy. The Ontario branch of the organization has its roots in religious classes taught in Toronto's Don Jail in the late 1800s and was officially established in 1929 by Brigadier General Draper, who was then the Chief of Police in Toronto. Currently, their office is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but their staff is working remotely.
