Well, contrary to popular belief, the Northwest Territories actually has the highest median income in Canada. This is due in part to the fact that NWT is the worlds 3rd largest producer of diamonds, second to Russia and Botswana. The Canadian diamond industry is a welcomed alternative to the blood diamonds imported from Africa, which are typically mined in war zones and used sold to finance insurgencies. Diamonds mined in NWT are, thankfully, ethically mined and the land surrounding is protected by laws to ensure preservation
