About this service
YWCA Halifaxs Youth Advisory Council, is a committee of young women ages 16-30, advocating and advising on program management and activities. The council members build their capacity for civic engagement through planning and leading youth events and community projects.

Assaults against girls account for 79% of the total cases of sexual assaults against children and youth
The YWCA girl-only youth programs seek to increase girls awareness about violence and root causes, while exploring identity, and building capacity, self-esteem and empowerment
Girls today often face shortened childhoods, largely because there are so many pressures on them. They face pressure to dress a certain way; pressure to appear older; pressure to try using drugs, and alcohol; and, sexual pressure from classmates, online sources, and the media.
