About this organization

Widowed in Self-Help (WISH) is a self-help group for widowed people of all ages, providing emotional support and guidance in our bereavement recovery. Our focus is to provide a safe place where we feel comfortable to share our feelings and experiences; to trade information and resources, and to exchange ideas on how to cope with our grief a place where we are all listened to without judgment a place where our thoughts and feelings are acknowledged and validated, not discounted. The object of this group is to help us cope and work through our grief in a positive way with a healthy outcome.

The WISH group was created by Mary Holland, Anne Marie Kennedy and Margaret Dick which they co-founded in 1998. The group follows a 10-session workbook adapted from the 1992 book by Alan Wolfelt, Understanding Grief.
