About this service
American Sign Language (ASL) is the language used by Deaf people in Canada and the United States. It is not a visual representation of English on the hands. ASL has its own grammar, syntax, and rules of order like other spoken languages. Learning ASL takes time, commitment, and practice the same as learning any other language.
The Society offers customized courses in ASL to businesses and organizations needing specialized vocabulary and training to deal with a specific clientele. The courses are offered based on need. In general, you will be introduced to the Deaf community and its Culture, as well as learning the alphabet, numbers, and over 170 signs. Focus will be spent on the linguistics of American Sign Language so that you may begin the journey of communicating with the over 30,000 Canadians who use ASL as their first language.
