Legal aid is a program available to help people with serious legal problems who are in financial need and cannot afford private counsel.
Legal aid is funded by the Federal and Provincial governments and by the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In many cases legal aid may be provided without charge, but not always. In some cases you may be required to pay some of the cost of the legal aid coverage you receive.
In determining whether someone can afford to cover part of the cost, and if so what portion of the cost they will be asked to pay, the Newfoundland and Labrador Legal Aid Commission will take a detailed look at your financial position.
