Children's Program HighScope Curriculum

Early Childhood Intervention is a system of professional services for young children who present with developmental delays, disabilities, atypical behaviors, social and emotional difficulties, or young children who are very likely to develop a delay before school entry. Moncton Headstart utilizes the HighScope preschool curriculum in our highly specialized Childrens Program. Highscope is a nonprofit, research organization and leader in early childhood education founded on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to be their best selves, regardless of their circumstances. This conviction for equity is at the center of what we practice in the classroom. The HighScope Curriculum is uniquely designed to provide a rich academic foundation while promoting independence, decision making, cooperation, creativity, and problem solving in young children. Play-based, child-centered, and grounded in research, the HighScope Curriculum features active learning at its core. Children are guided to explore, interact, and exercise their creative imagination through purposeful play. This includes learning objectives, effective adult interaction strategies, and assessment measures that help programs ensure a high-quality experience for all learners. Highly trained teachers support and extend each childs learning based on their developmental levels, so children enter school ready and eager to learn. Early Childhood Educators using the HighScope Curriculum also work in partnership with parents to promote childrens learning. They provide information about the curriculum and early learning, invite family members to participate in classroom activities and parent workshops, discuss childrens progress, and share ideas for extending classroom learning in the home. As a result, our Educators report that parents have a better understanding of how their children are developing and learning. HighScopes early childhood curriculum promotes childrens development and learning and has been shown to provide lasting benefits into adulthood.
