The NBLASC provides legal assistance to low-income individuals for certain families and
criminal matters.
Services for criminal matters:
- Legal Aid offers a free 24-hour service allowing persons accused of an offence to consult with a lawyer on short notice while they are detained
- For certain criminal matters, you may be able to get advice from Duty Counsel at the courthouse. The Duty Counsel lawyer may appear with the accused to enter a plea but will not represent the accused or appear at trial.
- If you have been charged with a criminal offence and you cannot afford a lawyer, you may apply for legal aid.
