About this service
Provides additional support via mentorship to refugee children, youth and their families during their settlement experience.
Individual Mentorship:
Screened, trained and monitored volunteer mentors are matched with mentees and meet for 6 hours each month for a period of 12 months. Mentors aim to:
- provide positive adult role modeling
- act as cultural navigators
- assist youth in the development of English language skills
- help youth develop a positive view of their new community
Site Based Mentorship:
Saturday, 12:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m.
The foundational goals of Site-Based Mentorship program are the same as the Individual Mentorship program, with the exception that Site-Based programming occurs within a group setting. The program runs on Saturdays, facilitated by both staff and volunteers, who engage with the children and youth through activities and outings around Winnipeg.
