Sexually transmitted infections are a concern whenever you might feel at risk. For example, when starting a new relationship, or when you have symptoms you are worried about. There are several different infections.

We offer testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea in the clinic. We can do this when you come for Pap testing, and we do this routinely when you have an unplanned pregnancy and are considering an abortion. If you have BC health insurance, there is no cost for testing.

To treat chlamydia or gonorrhea, we will give you a course of antibiotics, offer you further testing for any more serious infections, and a follow up for cure, 40 days later. We are required by public health to report these infections so that trends of infection and effective treatment can be monitored.

Other more serious STI include Syphilis, HIV AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. These infections require a blood test for screening.

Women during their reproductive years, or the years from when your periods start until menopause.
