About this service
The Arbutus is a new, 50-unit low-barrier shelter, opened at Douglas Street Community in December 2017. The shelter is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week to help address the need for day-time resources available to those experiencing poverty and homelessness. The shelter offers three meals a day, both co-ed and womens only (trans* inclusive) sections, and will offer additional emergency mats for additional shelter, when available. There is limited secure storage for personal items (including bikes and shopping carts), and pets are welcome. The shelter has been designed to be accessible for people with diverse mobility needs.
