Learning Disabilities Association Of British Columbia, Vernon Chapter

The main focus of our chapter is our tutoring program, helping students who are struggling in the school system. There has been much demand for tutoring and we sometimes have students on a wait list. Much time is spent researching materials, methodologies and best practices to use in the tutoring program. Use of an I Pad has proved very helpful and Voice to Text and Text to Voice applications are producing encouraging results. A printer specific to the I Pads will now be purchased for the students' use. Group tutoring will be offered during summer vacation to maintain and further develop the skills of students with learning disabilities. A lack of funds has hindered our setting up a website but we have recently secured the funding and are proceeding. We now are doing follow-up with our bursary recipients, offering assistance as they tackle further career or educational opportunities.
