RainCity Housing - Housing First LGBTQ2S+ Youth Housing

The first program of its kind in Canada, RainCity Housing and Support Society opened a Housing First outreach program specifically for youth who have experienced chronic and/or episodic homelessness and who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Two Spirit. Individuals come off the street, build supportive networks, find and secure housing, and pursue employment.

To provide housing and a healthy community for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Two-Spirit, Plus (LGBTQ2S+) youth and support them in creating a community where they can achieve their potential.

The youth (ages 18-24) connect with a team member either daily or weekly, depending where they reside. The model follows best practices in Housing First, recognizing the importance of choice and self-determination.

The outreach team is based out of a community space in East Vancouver where weekly community lunches take place and the youth can connect and support each other.
