About this service
Powell Street Festival Society's mission is to cultivate Japanese Canadian arts and culture to connect communities. The Powell Street Festival has been held in Oppenheimer Park and the surrounding neighbourhood since 1977, and strives to bring accessible and inclusive programming to the area. Programming includes the Asahi tribute game, Minori harvest celebration, Hanami cherry blossom festival, and ongoing advocacy work within the DTES community. PSFS has long held a grassroots and activist nature, advocating for the rights of the DTES community against a history of displacement in the historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhood of Paueru Gai.
