About this service
EMDR is a procedure developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the early 90's as a treatment for painful memories, emotional and physiological disturbances. Many children experience traumas that may leave their development at risk if not treated. Traumas in childhood can involve physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, car accidents, injuries, hospitalization and attachment loss. EMDR with children can also help with anxiety, depression, anger, fear and behavioural problems. Through a treatment combination of EMDR and play therapy children can heal from the affects of trauma. When the treatment plan involves a combination of these two therapeutic models it will require the involvement of the child's parents. At times parents may be present in the session supporting their child during the process.
