About this service
Our Program provides:
- food for monthly community gatherings (procured from African shops) and a community kitchen;
- education on importance of maintaining good physical and emotional health and the importance of accessing and maintaining medical care, accompaniment upon request to appointments (for translation purposes);
- education on safer sex, harm reduction, nutrition, neonatal and postnatal care, as well as on myths/realities of HIV/AIDS;
- English literacy programs and tutoring;
- settlement related information (information on other community services, schooling, doctors offices, banking, etc.);
- housing support and advocacy;
- peer support training;
- and educating community-at-large of the needs of African communities living in British Columbia.
Our programs are located in convenient locations throughout Surrey, where many African migrant communities reside. These programs are crucial defenses against the crushing isolation that many HIV/AIDS-diagnosed Afro-Canadians and newcomers are facing.
