About this service
Impressive efforts from local residents have resulted in recent conservation measures at McGinty Lake. The lake is located on Crown land just 10km east of Kimberley and has recently been granted Interpretive Forest status through strong efforts by the Meadowbrook Community Association.
Our solid partnership has resulted in free wetland education for primary students in Kimberley every spring and fall. Grade 1-8 classes are offered half-day field trips, exploring the McGinty Lake Interpretive Forest and wetland ecosystems. Through grade-specific programs linked to learning outcomes in BCs New Curriculum, and a variety of interactive teaching methods including props, games, and local examples, we seek to foster a curiosity in nature. Students develop a deeper respect for and understanding of our natural places, working towards a long-term increase in environmental stewardship.
