About this service
Growing Friends is a continuation upon the Farm to Table School Programs. It is meant to build student skills and literacy beyond the theoretical by teaching them how to grow food. The typical roadblock for schoolyard gardens is summer care and each school and community is challenged to find a solution to the watering, harvesting, and weeding required in maintaining productive gardens through the growing season. This project has built schoolyard gardens at an extended care-facility where the gardens will be enjoyed by the elderly and their families while also creating an opportunity for seniors and youth to connect on a regular basis. The gardens are still schoolyard gardens since they are maintained by the students and LFI coordinator during the growing season.
