About this organization
The Quesnel Pride Society is a registered non-profit agency formally established in 2019 after 4 years of ad hoc events by volunteers and allies. Lost youth is how the founding members of the Quesnel Pride Society described the queer youth they spoke with in Quesnel at the time the Pride Society was created. The founders took it upon themselves to visit local schools and talk to queer youth to let them know about the Pride Society and to find gaps in services. They found a gap in needing a safe space to meet for youth, and queer youth needing support services.
What they offer
We perform 3rd party market research on the needs of our queer community (first in the Cariboo region); we provide subsidized counselling for our youth and young adults; we train our counsellors in queer issues; we have Safe Space stickers for businesses supporting our queer community; we create secure online spaces for our queer members to meet safely; we start a Pflag chapter for families of LGBTQ2S+ (first in the Cariboo region); we engage our broader community in raising awareness of problems that need to be addressed; we engage our students and educators on the history of our queer community and the impact this has on interactions; we fight homophobia when we see it; we stand up against the normalization of hatred; and we stand up against bullying - of any kind.
