School Age Therapy

As part of the Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools student services, Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physiotherapists (PTs) provide consultation services. Consultation may include assessment, classroom and home recommendations, support adapting school activities and prescription of equipment. The OTs and PTs will collaborate with families, health care and school teams to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and follow-up with necessary community supports.

School age therapy is provided in coordination with nanaimo ladysmith public schools. Therapists direct service to students of nanaimo ladysmith public schools who meet one of the following criteria: students with pervasive feeding issues that may put them at risk for choking/aspiration students with acute health care needs that require rehabilitation (e.G. Head injury, stroke, post trauma, post-surgical) students whose physical condition or functional performance is at risk for deterioration (i.E. Those students with a degenerative disease process) students in need of equipment to minimize deformity and or in areas of self-care or school participation students requiring a prescription of augmentative devices that would ensure maximum performance in school accessibility issues within the physical environment of the school aimed at consult/education to team members students requiring transfers and positioning *short term consultation to address a specific school related question or concern may also be available at the request of the school based team.
