Kiwanis Village Nanaimo - Assisted Living

Assisted Living with Home Support Services is an ideal option for older adults who would choose to live independently with home care assistance. It is uniquely tailored care, delivered right at home. Assisted Living is accessible in both Kiwanis House and the Soroptimist Suites, and the program is designed to provide individuals with a comfortable and supported lifestyle that maximizes a joyful quality of life. Village-wide there are 30 studio & 45 one-bedroom suites, with kitchenettes including a microwave and refrigerator (no stove,) patios or balconies, and access to a common lounge with TV, games &books. Assisted Living at Kiwanis Village is publicly-funded through Island Health. Residents generally pay 70% of their after-tax income, & are responsible for a security deposit & payment of monthly utilities. APPLICATIONS & WAITLIST Kiwanis does not accept applications directly. Applications are submitted through Island Health. For eligibility contact Island Health at 250-739-5749 or request an assessment through your current Island Health Case Manager. There is a waitlist for Assisted Living FROM BC GOVERNMENT: Access to assisted living services is on a priority basis once eligibility has been determined, taking into account client needs, existing supports & urgency of the response required. Those with the greatest need & urgency receive access to services first. Client preference, special amenities & availability of subsidized units in a particular community affects the length of time a person will wait. Clients continue to receive support in the community while waiting for assisted living services. ASSISTED LIVING SERVICES INCLUDE: daily lunch and dinner, weekly housekeeping and linen services, and a full range of social and recreational programming, including, special events, themed dinners, exercise programs, community BBQs, entertainment and outings on our village bus. Residents also receive 24 hour/day emergency response monitoring through our pendant system.
