Indigenous Education Wiichihew Program

Wiichihew means Support, and the Indigenous Education Wiichihew Program is aimed at supporting current and prospective Indigenous students at Vancouver Island University prior to and during their transition to University education. This includes assisting them in: identifying their career choices, understanding how to qualify for entry into the variety of diploma, trade, certificate and degree programs, understanding the application processes and where to find funding sources, overcoming academic and social challenges or barriers, and emphasizing the importance of community supports. The Wiichihew staff person is available to respond to questions from students or their families, and share information to guide them in the right direction for supports and services.
