Five Acres Farm

The Five Acres Farm, located at 945 Park Ave is one of the last intact parcels of BCs first planned agricultural community. Nanaimo Foodshare is excited to use this green space as an urban farm as well as out door community classroom space for many of its programs. We are now offering group tours of the Five Acres Farm! Experience growing food on an urban farm. Get hands-on practice with food growing skills and fun ecological activities. Weekly, monthly, seasonal, and individual visits highlight the various cycles of growing. Click here to book your group and/or school farm tour. The Five Acres Farm Project includes: Growing for the Good Food Box program so that low-moderate income people in Nanaimo have access to more local, organic vegetables; Improve food security in Nanaimo and the region by growing more local food and teaching people the skills to grow food for themselves and others in the community; and Increase employment and volunteer opportunities for those with disabilites, via our Cultivating Abilities program, Homegrown program, E.A.T (Everyone At the Table) program. Nanaimo Foodshare partners with Growing Opportunities Farm Community Co-op to grow and harvest the produce grown. Five Acres Farm Update In September 2019, the City of Nanaimo announced it would purchase the Five Acres Farm and permit Nanaimo Foodshare to use a portion of the land to grow food. We now have an agreement in place with the City to operate the farm, and funds are being held in trust until we can complete community consultation around plans for a new Centre for Food Security & Sustainability.
