About this service
The Baby Bed program is a safe-sleep initiative that provides a bed for baby. The baby bed is a bassinet constructed of heavy cardboard that is a safe place for babies to sleep* which is vital, as sleep-related deaths are the leading cause of death in healthy infants. The beds can be used until babies are up to four or five months old, or when they begin to roll. Participating families are also connected to public health nurses and programs that support baby, mom and family. All pregnant women are encouraged to register with Right From The Start.
Who can use it?
The baby bed program is open to all families living north of the malahat see how to get a baby bed for a list of participating public health units. Women from their third trimester on or parents with a new baby up to two months old are eligible to receive a free bed.
