Royal Canadian Sea Cadets is a unique partnership between the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Navy League of Canada (NL). Each Corps is sponsored by a local Navy League Branch. The Branch is comprised of civilian volunteers (often parents) who have various duties such as administration, fundraising, assisting in the operation of the Corps, securing facilities for training, assisting in finding suitable adults to act as officer and civilian instructors and assisting in the recruitment of cadets. The Branchs funds make possible supplemental optional activities

and programs not funded by the Department of National Defence. While cadets encourage a familiarity with the Canadian Armed Forces, Sea Cadet Corps do not have a recruiting function and there is no obligation to join the Canadian Forces.
