LCSS - Family Connections Program

The Family Connections Program provides in-home counselling, support, and advocacy to families with a focus on reducing risk factors and keeping children safe. The families complex needs are addressed effectively by interventions based on preferences, strengths, and what works for the family. We build on families strengths, encourage positive discipline, and support parents to make changes in their lives that will enable them to meet their childrens needs. The program is divided into 3 teams: FAMILY & YOUTH TEAM The Family & Youth Team supports families with children aged 0-14 years. Our goal is to assist families in understanding and meeting their childrens developmental, physical, and emotional needs, while also helping families to learn how to access community resources and develop their own support network. INTENSIVE TEAM The Intensive Team supports families with children aged 0 to 14 years. The team assesses families needs and offers short-term intensive counselling to families to increase their childrens safety in the home. Our goal is to empower parents to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues that would otherwise prevent maintaining the children in the home. FAMILY DEVELOPMENT RESPONSE TEAM The Family Development Response Team (FDR) supports families with children aged 0 to 14 years. FDR is a three-month program that is offered when the Ministry of Children and Family Development receives information that raises concerns about a childs safety and there is a decision that the concerns can be managed through FDR rather than through a child protection investigation. Our goals are to help parents build on their familys strengths and provide an opportunity for families to access services available in the community, such as counselling and parenting programs. KIDS IN CONTROL Kids in Control is an educational support group for children aged 8 to 13 years whose parent/family member has a mental illness. The group is designed to provide the tools and coping skills that will promote resiliency for children in these families. Groups are offered twice each year. All programs are funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
