About this organization
The Sorrento & Area Community Health Centre provides Primary Health Care to residents and visitors to Sorrento and Area. Theresa Smith, Nurse Practitioner, sees patients from Monday to Friday, 9 noon and 1 4 p.m.
A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with a Masters Degree. Nurse Practitioners are able to assess patients and order diagnostic tests such as x-rays, CT scans, blood work and ultra sounds. They diagnose and treat chronic health conditions, write prescriptions, refer patients to specialists and assist patients to manage most chronic health problems. A referral from a physician is not required.
The Health Centre is a partnership between Interior Health and the Sorrento and Area Community Health Centre Society. Interior Health pays the salary and benefits for the Nurse Practitioner; the Society on behalf of the Community, is responsible for the overhead costs.
