About this service
Linking Generations is pleased to announce the launch of the Volunteer Grandparent Program, a new initiative which will offer seniors in Strathcona County more opportunities to help bridge the multi-generational gap. With funding provided by Strathcona County through its 2019 Social Services Grant Program the Volunteer Grandparent Program has been created as a pilot project in response to a lack of opportunities for young and older generations to relate in an increasingly age-segregated society.
The Volunteer Grandparent Program will place participating seniors into classrooms at eight elementary schools in Strathcona County commencing this October. Schools on board at this time include St. Theresa Middle School, OLPH Junior High School, Jean Vanier Elementary, Millshaven Elementary, Brentwood Elementary, Davidson Creek Elementary, Holy Spirit Elementary and Pine Street Elementary.
