Parkland Rehabilitation is now providing comprehensive concussion care consistent with the Shift Concussion Management Program. Shift is a comprehensive, Canada-wide program designed to provide personalized, evidence-based concussion management and treatment. Parkland Rehabilitation's services include pre-concussion baseline testing and post concussion care and treatment for sport related concussions.

A concussion is a type of injury to the brain induced by biomechanical forces. This can result from a blow to the head or body and results in an energy crisis within the brain stemming from diminished cerebral blood flow. Symptoms can include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Balance disturbance
  • Fatigue
  • Emotional changes

An individualized approach to concussion management is required because the presentation of symptoms is quite variable from one person to the next.
